What’s PLR?  It’s content that a writer or marketer creates and sells to their customers. With private label rights, you can use the content as your own and post it online as if you wrote it.

You’re free to edit or change the content if you like.  You can even add your own thoughts and opinions if you want to.  If you’re new to the concept of PLR content, here are three surprising facts about PLR you need to know.

It isn’t stealing to use PLR content

If you find an article online and copy it wholesale onto your own website, that’s stealing.   It doesn’t matter if you credit the author or not. If you take more than a paragraph or two, you’ve violated copyright law because you didn’t have the right to copy that material.

With PLR content, the seller is giving you the right to copy their material.  When you purchase PLR content, you’ll receive a license that explains what you’re permitted to do with it.

Most PLR providers allow you to change the content if there’s a point you disagree with or if you want to add your own opinion to the work.

It isn’t unethical to use PLR content

When a PLR seller makes their content available for sale, they know that you will be using it without giving them credit.  In fact, most PLR licenses forbid the purchaser from using the seller’s name when the purchaser publishes the content.

That’s for two reasons.  First, the purchaser has the write to edit the PLR content as she wishes, change the format as she desires, and publish it wherever she wants to.  Since the seller has no control over those decisions, she won’t want to be identified with the published content.

Second, the purpose of PLR is for the purchaser to promote her own business with it.  So the purchaser needs to be able to claim the PLR content as her own, publish on her own blog, build her own list, and sell her own information products.

So publishing PLR content without identifying the original author is simply in keeping with the whole idea of creating and selling PLR in the first place.
